After being on the road last week, the Brock Badgers women's basketball team returned home and earned their 10th win of the campaign in a blowout 70-37 victory at Bob Davis Gymnasium over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Ava Stranges contributed a game-high five assists to go alongside her 12 points, five rebounds and one steal, while Madalyn Weinert continued her consistent scoring and rebounding with game highs in both categories, finishing with 23 points and 17 rebounds to secure her 11th consecutive double-double. The Badgers established their defence early on, holding the Ridgebacks to 10 points through the opening frame as they put up 19 points of their own. The first basket made by Weinert in the quarter pushed her career point total past the 2,000 mark. Brock dominated the second quarter with a score of 23-8, shooting 9-of-17 from the field and finishing the half with a commanding 42-18 lead. Through the third quarter, the Badgers' offence slowed down, but the defence's ability to hold Ontario Tech to 13 points on 26.2 per cent shooting was enough to keep the lead safe. Brock finished with a strong fourth quarter score of 16-6 to secure the victory. The Badgers defensive approach was the deciding factor in this game with Ontario Tech's highest point total in a quarter being 13 points. Brock also controlled the glass, putting up 48 total rebounds to Ontario Tech's 33.

Matched up against the undefeated No. 3 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels on Senior Night at Bob Davis Gymnasium, the Brock Badgers women's basketball team came up short in a close 66-64 defeat. Weinert finished as the game's leading scorer, tallying 29 points, along with a season-high 21 rebounds to record her 15th double-double of the year. Jamie Addy added offensive support, registering 13 points and a team-high four assists. The Gaels came out of the gates on fire, taking a commanding 25-12 lead after 10 minutes of play. Brock clawed their way back into the game throughout the second quarter, outscoring Queen's 20-8 on the back of Weinert's 13 points in the frame. The Badgers came out the halftime break placing similar pressure on the Gaels to enter the final quarter with a 49-48 lead. Queen's prevailed down the stretch to secure the victory despite Weinert recording four blocks during the final frame. The Badgers' gritty defence forced the high-flying Gaels into 19 total turnovers, highlighted by securing nine steals compared to four from the visitors.

Up next, the Badgers host the York Lions at the Bob Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. for the All for Change game before hosting the Paint the Meridian Red game against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines. Written by Ryan Burroughs, Sports Information Student Assistant

In a highly anticipated matchup between the No. 8 Brock Badgers men's basketball team and the Queen's Gaels, the Badgers fell short 100-82 at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Senior Night. Heyes led the way with eight three-pointers en route to tying a career high of 24 points. Showcasing his playmaking, McKenna delivered a career-high six assists. First-year guard Birch Pockar drained four three-pointers en route to matching his career-high 12 points, marking his third double-digit scoring performance of the season. The first quarter was a battle with both teams trading three-pointer after three-pointer to combine for 11 in the frame. The Badgers trailed 35-29 after one and stormed back quickly with seven threes, taking their first lead near the end of the second. A late three-pointer by Queen's left Brock down 55-54 at halftime. Brock went through a scoring drought in the third, getting outscored 24-14, which had them behind 79-68 heading into the final quarter. The shooting struggles continued as the Badgers could only put up 14 points compared to 21 from the Gaels. The Badgers made a season-high 19 three-pointers in the contest, shooting 46.3 per cent.

Up next, Brock looks to bounce back when they host the York Lions at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. for the All for Change game. Following the midweek matchup, the Badgers host the McMaster Marauders at the Merdian Centre on Saturday, Jan 31 at 8 p.m. for the Paint the Meridian Red game. Friday, Jan. 23: L 4-3 vs. Waterloo Warriors | Box Score
Written by Matthew Goodman, Sports Information Student Assistant

In a Friday night home matchup against the No. 6 nationally ranked Waterloo Warriors, the Brock Badgers fell 4-3 in a narrow loss at Canada Games Park. Kaedyn Gomes, Randyll Strongman and Avery Diljee each scored for the Badgers. After the opening faceoff, both teams looked evenly matched, exchanging chances back and forth. The Warriors found the back of the net first, scoring about halfway through the period. The Badgers responded quickly when Gomes jumped on a big rebound and tied the contest at one. The second frame started with both teams even, and it stayed that way until the Warriors snuck a goal in with just five minutes remaining in the period. All hope seemed lost when Waterloo added another tally halfway through the third period to take a 3-1 advantage, but Brock didn't quit. On the power play, Strongman took advantage of a defensive lapse and brought Brock back within one goal. Less than three minutes later, Diljee skated into the zone and held off two defenders before cutting inside and floating the puck into the top corner to tie the game. With just over a minute remaining in the contest, the Warriors scored the game winner, stopping the Badgers' hopes of a comeback victory. The Badgers showed an impressive offensive performance against a nationally ranked opponent, outshooting the Warriors 30-25.

Written by Connor Bangham, Sports Information Intern

After a narrow defeat the evening prior, the Brock women's hockey team picked up a 3-0 victory over the TMU Bold on Saturday night at Canada Games Park. Taylor Wolsey was a factor on all three scores, finishing with a goal and two assists, while Ava Fisher also delivered a multi-point night as she earned a goal and an assist. Megan Thiessen recorded a shutout in net, stopping all 17 shots she faced for her second of the season. Just over five minutes into the game, the Badgers struck first as Fisher opened the scoring. Later in the frame, Wolsey potted a goal that extended Brock's lead to two. While each team traded chances, the next 40 minutes went scoreless before Jenna Duarte scored a late power-play goal to seal the game for the Badgers. Brock's penalty kill was key in the outcome as they were able to kill off all three they took, and they controlled things offensively, outshooting their opponent 30-17.

The Badgers look forward to taking on the Carleton Ravens on Friday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Advanced Capital Ice House in Ottawa. The next matchup is on on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. when the Badgers visit the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Minto Sports Complex.

In a Thursday night matchup at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph, Ont., the Brock Badgers came up short in a 3-1 decision against the Guelph Gryphons in the 16th edition of the Frosty Mug. Third-year forward Nathan Fox scored the lone goal for the Badgers, with Sawyer Prokopetz and Ethan Sims picking up assists on the play. Brock set the tone early in the matchup, opening the scoring off the stick of Fox at 1:53 of the opening frame.  A momentum-shifting second period saw Guelph capitalize on its opportunities, scoring three times to take a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of action. The Badgers increased their pressure in the third period, registering 13 shots on goal and maintaining extended possession in the offensive zone. Despite multiple power-play chances, Brock was unable to find the equalizer as the score remained 3-1 at the final buzzer. Defensively, the Badgers' penalty kill limited the Gryphons to zero goals on three power-play opportunities, while offensively, they outshot the hosts 29-18 in the contest.

After the Badgers found themselves even at 13 with the Varsity Blues, a 13-11 run by the Badgers, including three Kaiya Greydanus kills, helped Brock win the second frame 26-24. The Badgers started the final frame with a 12-7 lead. Despite Toronto cutting Brock's advantage to one late in the set, a Foest kill and a Varsity Blues' attack error helped secure a Badgers' victory. Brock's defence was a factor throughout, recording 10 blocks to four from the Varsity Blues, while also winning the dig battle 45-40.

In the first frame, Brock fell behind 22-20 but took five of the final six points which was capped off by a set-clinching kill from Mathieu Joli-Coeur. The Badgers kept it close in the second frame with three late kills from Snider, but their efforts weren't enough as the Varsity Blues took the frame 25-22.
