Brock men's lightweight rowing coach Tom Kent has built a lasting legacy in the sport, spanning more than 50 years.Â
Kent received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Rowing Canada Aviron during an online ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 26.Â
During his 10-year tenure with the Badgers, Kent has led the Brock men's rowing program to six Ontario University Athletics (OUA) banners, helping establish a culture of sustained excellence.Â
"We're so happy Rowing Canada Aviron selected Tom for this award," said Brock rowing head coach Katie Bruggeling. "Coach Tom brings passion and genuine care to our team every day, and we feel incredibly fortunate to work with him. He truly is a role model for the team, both as an athlete and as a person."Â
This past season, the Brock men's rowing team became the first program to capture five consecutive men's provincial titles since the Western Mustangs accomplished the feat from 1993 to 1997.Â
Kent's impact with the Badgers is further highlighted by five consecutive OUA Coach of the Year awards.Â
"I'm very honoured to receive this award," Kent said. "It reflects the collective effort of everyone I've had the privilege to work with, and each person has contributed in a meaningful way. The student-athletes in this university environment, who are studying while competing at the varsity level, are truly special to work with."Â
A former Brock University student, Kent has supported more than a dozen athletes in representing Canada on the international stage and has played a key role in developing high-performance student-athletes.Â
As an athlete, Kent also enjoyed a distinguished career as a national and international medallist and as a member of the Canadian national senior team.Â
In announcing the honour, Rowing Canada Aviron highlighted Kent's excellence, mentorship and integrity, crediting his athletic background as a foundation for his coaching success.Â
