In the first game of the 2026 season, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team fell to the host Windsor Lancers 4-1 at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex in Windsor, Ont., on Saturday. Rylan Thiessen, a fourth-year defenceman, scored a goal in his second straight game and was the Badgers' lone goal scorer in the contest. Will Hambley earned the start in net and made 29 saves. The Lancers got the scoring started near the midway point of the first period. They followed this up with a second goal with just over five minutes left in the second frame and added another halfway through the third period Looking to ignite a comeback, Thiessen fired a shot past the glove side of Lancers' goaltender Max Donoso to reduce the lead to 3-1. Despite a frame that saw the Badgers deliver 22 shots on net, they were unable to make it any closer as an empty netter late in the third expanded the Lancers' advantage back to three goals. Brock controlled the shots department 42-32, providing pressure throughout the matchup.

In a rematch of their Saturday night contest in Windsor, Ont., the Brock Badgers came up short against the Windsor Lancers, dropping a 3-1 decision on Sunday. Scoring his first goal of the season was fourth-year forward Ethan Sims. Hambley delivered 24 saves, marking his 11th game of the season with over 20 stops. The two periods featured scoreless hockey, with the Badgers firing 22 shots on net, while the Lancers delivered 18 of their own. After the second intermission, the Lancers got on the board first, putting the puck in within the first four minutes of the third frame. Sims kept the Badgers in the game after he tipped in a point shot from Nathan Drapeau with 9:06 left in the period. From there, the Lancers scored two goals, putting in the game winner with just five minutes left before adding an empty net goal to seal the game. Like Saturday night's contest, the Badgers did not come away with the victory despite outshooting their opponent 32-27.

Up next, the Badgers return home to take on this same Windsor Lancers side at Canada Games Park for a 6 p.m. puck drop on Friday, Jan. 9. The day after on Saturday, Jan. 10, the Guelph Gryphons come into town for a 4 p.m. game at Canada Games Park.
