Badgers unite to support breast cancer research

The Brock women's basketball team is facing off against breast cancer by raising funds for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).

The 19th annual Shoot for the Cure game, which takes place at 6 p.m. in the Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 10, is part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of and money for breast cancer research. The Brock Badgers will also wear pink warmups as they take on the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs.

Two other Brock women's teams will be raising money this month in support of the national U SPORTS Shoot for the Cure campaign, which runs officially from Wednesday, Jan. 21 to Sunday, Feb. 1.

The women's hockey team will host its Pink in the Rink game on Friday, Jan. 16 against the Western Mustangs at 6 p.m. at Canada Games Park, and women's volleyball is hosting a Dig for the Cure game at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17 against the RMC Paladins.

Fans can support Brock's teams and the Shoot for the Cure campaign, which aims to raise $100,000, by heading to the Brock Badgers' fundraising page on the Canadian Cancer Society website. To support a specific team's fundraising goals, fans can select the roster page on the Brock Badgers fundraising page and click "Donate Now" beside the team of their choice.

U SPORTS has also launched the Shoot for the Cure Collection merchandise that will be available during the national fundraising campaign, with proceeds from every item sold directly supporting Shoot for the Cure.

Last year's donations exceeded $122,000, bringing Shoot for the Cure's total raised since 2007 to more than $2 million.
