The No. 4 seeded Brock Badgers women's rugby team are one step closer to an OUA Championship.
Â
Hosting their OUA Quarterfinal match at Alumni Field on Saturday, Oct. 17, the Badgers got the better of the No. 5 seeded McMaster Marauders by a score of 36-12, winning their fifth consecutive game between the regular season and playoffs.
Â
Fourth-year centre Jenna Rutherford and second-year fullback Carly Kay led the Badgers in scoring with two tries each while Jordan Smith and Lauren Smith both scored a try to round out Brock's scoring effort.
Â
The Badgers set the tone early with two tries in the opening 15 minutes to take an early 12-0 lead. The two teams exchanged tries throughout the remainder of the half, resulting in the Badgers taking a 17-5 lead into the halftime break.
Â
The Marauders turned up the intensity to begin the second half, scoring a try to cut the lead down to five. However, the Badgers responded with a strong offensive push of their own, pulling away to the tune of three unanswered tries to close out the game and punch their ticket to the next round.
Â
With just four teams now remaining, the No. 9 nationally ranked Badgers will tangle with the No. 2 nationally ranked Guelph Gryphons to determine who advances to the OUA Final. The match will take place at Guelph's Varsity Field on Saturday, Oct. 24, with the gametime still to be determined. The game can be seen on OUA.tv.
