Hoffrogge's overtime heroics power Badgers past Blues

The Brock Badgers men's hockey team successfully defended home ice on Thursday, Oct. 29 against the Toronto Varsity Blues.

The Badger faithful at Canada Games Park went home happy following Jacob Hoffrogge's overtime winner, putting the Badgers back in the win column with a 2-1 victory.

Brock came out strong against the Toronto, with several scoring opportunities throughout the first period. The Badgers dominated offensively, outshooting the Blues 15-4, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Badgers successfully killed off multiple penalties, keeping the game scoreless heading into the second period.

The Badgers opened the second period with Joshua Brady taking the lead five minutes into the period on his first career OUA goal. The Badgers continued to demonstrate strong defensive efforts while shorthanded, blocking shots and shutting down Toronto's scoring opportunities to maintain their one-goal advantage.

The third period remained scoreless until the 16-minute mark, as Toronto scored their first goal late in the frame to force overtime.

After two minutes of back-and-forth action, Jacob Hoffrogge sent the fans home happy, scoring the game winning goal and his first of the season for the Badgers, finishing off a passing play with Natan Ethier.

Goaltender Will Hambley stopped a total of 25 shots for the Badgers.

Looking forward, the Badgers resume play next weekend with a pair of games in Thunder Bay, Ont. against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The contest on Friday, Nov. 6 is set for a 7 p.m. puck drop. The game can be seen live on OUA.tv.
