In a heavy-stakes matchup, the Brock Badgers upset the No. 4 nationally ranked Guelph Gryphons with a thrilling 1-0 victory on Thursday night at Canada Games Park. The win officially secured the Badgers a berth in the OUA playoffs, marking their first appearance since the 2022-23 season. Avery Diljee proved to be the difference maker, scoring Brock's lone goal of the contest. Second-year goaltender Megan Thiessen was spectacular between the pipes, turning aside all 29 shots she faced to record her third shutout of the season. The opening frame featured physical and playoff-style hockey, with both teams trading chances but neither able to break through. The deadlock was finally snapped three minutes into the second period when Diljee struck at even strength, burying the eventual game-winning goal to give Brock a 1-0 edge. Guelph pushed hard in the middle frame, outshooting Brock 14-12 in the period, but the Badgers remained composed, with a key penalty kill to preserve their lead. Clinging to a one-goal advantage in the third, the Gryphons pressed for the equalizer but Thiessen closed the door late, sealing the 1-0 shutout victory. Guelph won the shot battle 29-26, but Brock got the edge where it mattered most as strong goaltending proved to be the difference-maker.
