Stranges, Weinert combine for 52 in close quarterfinal loss to Lancers

The Brock Badgers women's basketball team never stopped fighting as they saw their impressive season come to an end.

In an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) quarterfinal matchup, the No. 6 seed Brock Badgers fell in narrow fashion 83-77 to the No. 3 seed Windsor Lancers on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Toldo Lancer Centre in Windsor, Ont.

In her final game in a Badgers uniform, Madalyn Weinert dropped her 22nd double-double of the season with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Ava Stranges earned a career-high 25 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Jamie Addy contributed with 13 points as well as three steals.

The Badgers were more efficient from the field, going 8-for-16 in the first quarter, but Windsor secured eight offensive rebounds in the frame and capitalized on second-chance opportunities as they took the frame 24-20.

Addy led the way with seven points in the quarter, with Weinert scoring six and dishing out two assists.

Stranges took control in the second, providing efficient scoring with 12 points on 62.5 per cent shooting, including knocking down 2-of-3 from beyond-the-arc.

Brock made rebounding adjustments in the frame, besting Windsor 13-8 on the glass, while also holding the Lancers to 33.3 per cent shooting to trail by just one at halftime.

In the third quarter, Weinert came alive dropping 11 points, proving why she leads the country in scoring as she attempted to bring the Badgers back in this tight contest.

The Lancers continued to apply the pressure, however, knocking down 3-of-7 from three as well as earning five steals in the frame, taking the quarter 22-21.

Windsor's Julia Chiarot dropped 11 points in seven minutes in the final quarter, while as a team, the Lancers got to the free-throw line seven times to just two for the Badgers.

Brock hung in until the last whistle, but Weinert and Stranges' combined 10 points were not enough to overcome the No. 3 seed in the OUA as Windsor took the frame 19-15 and the game to advance to the semifinals.

Depth scoring was a deciding factor in the outcome, with the Lancers outsourcing the Badgers in bench points 18-8.

Brock held the edge in shooting efficiency, hitting 45.5 per cent from the field and 33.3 per cent from three, while Windsor shot 41.7 and 31 per cent in those respective categories.

Head coach Shae Dheensaw and the Badgers have a lot to be proud of from their 2025-26 campaign, posting a 15-9 overall record and reaching the OUA quarterfinal round for the seventh consecutive year.
