The Brock Badgers continue to sit atop the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) wrestling mountain.
At the 2026 OUA Championships, the Brock men's wrestling team earned a historic 27th overall and 10th consecutive banner on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Alumni Hall in London, Ont.
"It was a great day for our athletes and the program," said head coach Marty Calder. "As a team, we wrestled fearlessly which is a great indication that we will be working towards a season's best at Lakehead in three weeks for the national championships."
Finishing first with 79 points, a full 20 ahead of the second-place Western Mustangs, the Badgers put on a complete performance, earning six medals including four gold. The McMaster Marauders rounded out the podium with 56 points.
With the women's team also claiming an OUA title, the Badgers wrestling program has now swept the provincial banners for the 10th consecutive year.
Roger Li claimed his third straight gold medal in the 125-kilogram weight class in convincing fashion, not giving up a single point all tournament. His flawless run was capped by a default win in the championship match over Chanjot Kang of the McMaster Marauders.
Two Badgers repeated their sparkling gold-medal performances from last year as Gabriel Blanchette (68kg) and Yazdan Farokhizad (90kg) both went undefeated. In the finals, Blanchette edged Casey Harkley (Guelph Gryphons) with a tight 11-8 decision victory, while Farokhizad delivered a commanding 11-0 technical win over Luca Roma (Western Mustangs).
Javier Tonita-Charriez (57kg) and Aiden O'Neill (61kg) both made impactful debuts at the provincial championships, capturing gold and silver, respectively. In the championship match, Tonita-Charriez left no doubt with a 13-2 technical fall win over the Algoma Thunderbirds' Brandon Carillo, while O'Neill went undefeated until the final before falling to McMaster's Blayne Helou. For his performance, Tonita-Charriez was named Men's Rookie of the Year.
After earning bronze last season, Mason Mastroianni was masterful in his final OUA Championships appearance, claiming gold in the 65kg event with a win by fall in two minutes and 16 seconds over Guelph's Cooper Feke.
Callum Knox rounded out the medal results with a second-place finish in the 100kg division for his fifth medal of his illustrious career.
For the fifth consecutive season, Calder was named the OUA Men's Coach of the Year.
The Badgers return to action at the 2026 Wrestling Canada Lutte U SPORTS Invitational Championships set for Feb. 27-28 in Thunder Bay, Ont.
