SELECTION CRITERIA
Student-Athlete
a. Athletic Accomplishments:
- Been named a first team All-Canadian, or
- Won a CIAU/CIS/U SPORTS national championship, or
- Set a national or world record, or
- Participated in the Olympic Games, FISU Games, or World Championships, or
- Participated on a national team,
- Led the nation in a recognized statistical category, or
- Succeeded as a professional athlete.
b. Academic Standing: To be eligible for selection, a former student-athlete must have finished or left in good academic standing.
c. Eligibility Waiting Period: A former student-athlete shall be first eligible for selection five (5) full academic years after last representing the Brock University in competition.
Coach
Former coaches who have had outstanding success in a varsity sport/varsity sport club at the Brock University shall be eligible for consideration. All criteria and qualifications are based upon the candidate's participation while serving at the university; however, accomplishments prior to or after leaving the university may also be considered. Selection will be based on:
- Career record
- Championships won (national and conference)
- National Top 10 rankings
- Development of program
- National achievements (i.e. Coach of the year)
- Development of student-athletes (i.e. Olympians and/or World, Canadian or U SPORTS (Formerly CIAU/CIS) record setters; number of All-Canadians; number of national champions in individual sports)
- Length of distinguished service
- Completed their coaching tenure in good standing with Brock University
Builder
Individuals who have made a major contribution to the development and growth of the Brock Sports & Recreation (Formerly Brock Athletics, Brock Recreation) program shall be eligible for induction into the Builder category.
Team
Varsity Teams: Teams who have won a U SPORTS (Formerly CIAU/CIS national)/NSO title championship; or have had exceptional OUA (more than 3 consecutive appearances for example)/PSO championships titles, will be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Executive Director, Brock Sports & Recreations (or designate) shall convene the Selection Committee at a time consistent with planning for the induction event. The selection committee shall be chaired by the Executive Director, Brock Sports & Recreation (or designate), who shall only vote in the case of a tie. Efforts should be made to respect gender equity on the Selection Committee. At no time shall the committee consist of more than nine (9), including the chair. The committee shall be comprised of:
- One (1) representative appointed by Brock Development/Alumni office
- One (1) current member of the Sport Hall of Fame
- Two (2) current Badger head coaches
- Two (2) Brock Sports & Recreation Department staff (as appointed by the Executive Director)
- At-large representative(s) (as appointed by the Executive Director)
NOMINATIONS
A call for nominations shall be made in the spring of each year. The nomination period for the next incoming class shall close on Aug 1st. Note: Nominations received after this date shall still be accepted throughout the year but will be considered for the following class induction year. Nominations MUST be submitted on the official nomination form, also available for download from the gobaders.com website. Incomplete nominations will not be valid.
Nominations received after the deadline for a given academic year will be considered in the following academic year. Nominations will be accepted from all sectors of the community. Nominations shall have two nominees, one of which to be endorsed by at least one (1) alumnus of Brock University. Nominees not selected for induction will automatically be reconsidered the following academic year, unless the nomination is withdrawn. After two years, that individual/team would require re-nomination. Nominations shall consist only of the official nomination form and additional supporting documentation (i.e. letters of support). Other information will not be considered by the Selection Committee.
No more than six (6) nominees which includes a maximum of one (1) championship team shall be inducted each academic year. Further, not all selection categories are required to be filled annually. Note that exceptions are permitted on a case-by-case basis.
Selected recipients will be notified by October 30 annually with the details of the induction ceremony to occur in late spring (May/June). Each recipient shall receive two free tickets to the event (with an option to purchase more tickets), a commemorative plaque, a Sports Hall of Fame pin and a noted legacy of their achievement to be recognized in the Sport Hall of Fame (installation currently being refurbished) located in Walker Complex, Brock University.
