2008-09: As a rookie in 2008-09,Smeltzer appeared in all 28 regular season games… he led theteam in defenseman scoring and was fifth in the OUA in rookiedefenseman scoring registering two goals and 13 assists for 15points… added one power play marker… recorded acareer high four points adding one goal and three assists in theBadgers 7-0 victory over UOIT on October 25, 2008… scoredhis first career Canadian Interuniversity Sport goal againstRyerson on October 9, 2008.

Junior: Over three seasons he played inthe British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Alberni ValleyBulldogs and Vernon Vipers... in 158 career games he registered 19goals and 50 assists for 69 career points... he also racked up 327penalty minutes... in 2007-08 he recorded a career best 37 pointsrecording 10 goals and 27 assists... prior to the BCHL, Smeltzerplayed 14 games in Major Junior for the Regina Pats of theWHL.
