Karen Millar is a Certified Athletic Therapist and Registered Massage Therapist working in the Brock Sports Medicine Clinic. She has been calling Brock her second home since 1994. After completing high school in Georgetown, Millar earned diplomas in Fitness at George Brown College, Sport Injury Management at Sheridan College, and Massage at the school of Occupational Health & Technology, with a degree in Community Health at Brock University. Millar has furthered her education by completing her Certified Strength and Conditioning, Pilates Matwork Certification, Reconditioning Level 1, and Lower Body Mobilizations with Movement. When first employed at Brock, Millar led fitness classes and was also the university’s first Pilates instructor. She currently teaches Practical Athletic Training and Taping & Wrapping Courses offered by Brock Recreation.
Â
Millar moved from Burlington to St. Catharines in 1999 with her husband Dave. They have two boys - her first, Jacob Brock was the Niagara Region’s New Year’s baby in 2004, Matthew David was born in 2006. After attending many Brock sporting events (to see mom at work) both boys are now heavily involved in sports themselves with baseball as their favourite. When not working at Brock, or attending her sons’ games, you can find Millar either walking or running all over Welland where she now resides. She has completed a full marathon and five half marathons.
Â
Millar very much enjoys educating student-athletes about injuries, and getting them back in the game, as well as training those students interested in careers within the medical profession.
