David Velasco is the Varsity and Student-Athletes Services Coordinator at Brock Sports. Originally from Puebla, Mexico, Velasco’s passion for sports began in early childhood, playing soccer and various other sports for more than 30 years. 

Velasco graduated from the New York Institute of Technology in Business Administration before completing his graduate studies in Communications in 2007. During his undergraduate degree, he was a member and captain of the men’s soccer team (NCAA-DII). During his time as a student-athlete, Velasco helped his team obtain the ECC’s conference championship and participated in the NCAA playoffs on two occasions, reaching the Elite Eight in his last year of eligibility.

His professional work started in Sports Information at NYIT during his graduate degree before becoming the American Football team coordinator at ITESM Campus Puebla – Mexico in 2010. After two years in this position, Velasco was recruited to be part of the athletic department at the Universidad de las Americas Puebla (UDLAP) as the Varsity and Student-Athlete Services Manager. During his five-years at UDLAP, the varsity teams he managed, obtained 17 championship titles and 20 national podium fishes.

After moving to Canada in 2017, Velasco completed his Master’s degree in Sports Management at the University of Ottawa which included an internship at Volleyball Canada. He then became the General Manager for the Gloucester Hornets Soccer Club in Ottawa before coming to Brock University.
