Kennedy named new Men's Lacrosse head coach

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the addition of Justin Kennedy as the new head coach of the Brock men's lacrosse program.

"We are very pleased to have Justin at the helm of our lacrosse team," said acting Brock Director of Athletics Chris Critelli. "Having one of our own return to the campus to coach the sport he gave so much to is a tribute to the university. Justin is familiar with the success of the program and no doubt will work hard to continue the tradition."

Joining Kennedy on his staff will be new assistant coach and former Brock player Clem D'Orazio and administrative coordinator Danielle Smith.

Kennedy and his staff replaces Dan Pilon, Mike Fishleigh and Jim Kirchner who all retired from university coaching at the end of the 2008-09 school year.

As a player Kennedy has enjoyed a great deal of success being part of four winning programs. He has captured four OLA provincial championships with the Barrie Tornado Jr. B (2003), Barrie Lakeshores Sr. B (2004) and Owen Sound Woodsmen Sr. B (2007 & 2008). He has also been part of five National Championships over the past six years; which includes a Jr. B Founders Cup with Barrie (2003), Sr. B Presidents Cup with Owen Sound (2008) and three CUFLA National Championships as a member of the Brock Badgers (2005, 2006, 2007).

The 27-year old Kennedy has been the head coach of competitive midget/bantam lacrosse teams for eight seasons in the Midland Minor Lacrosse and Barrie Minor Lacrosse Associations.

"I am honoured to receive this opportunity, and will give everything I can to carry on our winning tradition here at Brock," said Kennedy.

"After coming off of a tough season, I predict our players will come to camp more motivated and prepared than ever".

In the 24-year history of Canadian University Lacrosse, the Badgers have captured 16 Baggataway Cup Championships (1986, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007).
