Devin Cooney, a third-year outside hitter, helped the Badgers to a spilt with the Trent Excalibur over the weekend as they look to keep their playoff dreams alive. In the 3-1 loss to the Excalibur on Friday, Jan. 31, he notched a match-high 20 points off 17 kills and three service aces. Avenging their defeat from the night prior, Brock completed a three-set sweep and Cooney was a big reason why. Putting up a match-high 15.5 points along with teammate Nanle Yusuf, Cooney delivered timely kills late in each set to help propel the Badgers to the win, which included the final point of a very tight 25-23 first set. On the season, he has earned double-digit kills in 13 of the 16 matches he has played. Currently, the Business Communication student sits first in the province and fifth in the country in points per set with 4.6 and kills per set with 3.95. Cooney previously earned Athlete of the Week recognition on Nov. 18, 2024 after a 34-kill performance against the Guelph Gryphons.
