Michael Ivanov, a third-year athlete, won his second Ontario University Athletics (OUA) gold medal of his career after besting all challengers in the men's pole vault event this past weekend on Saturday, Feb. 22. The Business major cleared 5-metres, finishing 35 centimetres ahead of the three jumpers who finished with a jump of 4.65-metres. Having already previously qualified for the U SPORTS Championships in January, Ivanov continues to be ranked No. 1 in the men's pole vault individual national rankings. His jump of 5.11m at the Don Wright Team Challenge in January puts him 11 cm ahead of Èdouard Lavoie-Beaulieu of the Sherbrooke Vert et Or. Ivanov will look to add to his medal haul after earning a national bronze-medal result last year. This year's U SPORTS Championships take place from Thursday, March 6 to Saturday, March 8 at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse in Windsor.Â
