Brock women's volleyball falls to No. 7 ranked GeeGees

OTTAWA, Ont. - The Brock University women's volleyball team (4-8 OUA West) fell to the hands of the No.7 ranked Ottawa GeeGees (12-1 OUA East) by the score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21) Saturday night at Montpetit Hall.

Brock took Game One 25-23, but it was the GeeGees offense coming alive over the next three sets combining for 48 of their team high 56 kills. The Badgers were held to a season low 21 total kills in the loss. 

Shenise Power (North Vancouver, BC) added six kills for the Badgers. Junior setter Lauren Stirling (Whitby, Ont.) recorded the double double finishing with 16 assists and 12 digs. Tori Stirling (Whitby, Ont.), Lucy McLay (Stratford, Ont.) and Nicole Arthurs (Georgetown, Ont.) all struggled offensively finishing with a negative hitting percentage.

Leading the nationally ranked GeeGees was Myriam English who recorded a game high 21 kills and nine digs. Kelsie English contributed with 16 kills and nine digs while Sophie Chenail rounded out the Ottawa leaders finishing with eight kills in the victory.

For the match, Brock hit a negative .018 adding 21 kills with 23 errors on 111 total attempts. Ottawa registered 57 kills with 24 errors on 137 attempts for a .241 hitting percentage.

The Badgers return to action next weekend when they host the Waterloo Warriors January 17th and No. 6 ranked York Lions January 18th at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
