ST CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University women's volleyball team (4-7) opened the second half of the season with a tight 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 25-21, 11-15) loss against the Guelph Gryphons (7-4) on Tuesday evening in the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
After taking the first set 25-22 the Badgers would drop two straight by scores of 25-22 and 25-16 to trail Guelph 2-1 through three sets.
Brock got a quick lead in the fourth set causing the Gryphons to call a quick timeout after just four points played. The Badgers would hold on to tie the match at two with a 25-21 fourth set win.
Brock found themselves playing a bit of catch-up in the fifth and deciding set and would find themselves tied before giving up three straight points to fall 15-11 in the set and 3-2 in the match.
Shenise Power and
Lucy McLay led the Badgers offensively finishing the match with 15 and 12 kills respectively.
Tori Stirling had a solid match collecting eight kills and a team high 16 digs.
Lauren Stirling registered game high 36 assists in the loss.
Madison DeDecker was the only Gryphon to put up double digits in kills finishing the match with 13. Kristen Almhjell had a game high 23 digs, while Ashleigh Andzel collected 31 assists in the win.
As a team, the Badgers hit .157 registering 47 kills with 27 errors on 127 attempts. Guelph hit .182 with 45 kills, 21 errors and 132 attempts.
The Badgers will travel to Ottawa to take on the 8
th ranked Gee Gees on Saturday, January 11
th with the match getting started at 6pm.
