
The Brock University women's lacrosse team continues their march to the OUA Championships with games this weekend against York University (9:45 am) and University of Toronto (4:45 am) this Saturday October 11th at McMaster University.
The Badgers have had a strong season thus far earning them their record of 7-0. They are currently the only team undefeated in the league and will look to add two wins to their record over the weekend. Their opponents this weekend are the York Lions who are 1-5 and the Varsity Blues whose current record is 4-1-1.
In their most recent games the women faced the Guelph Gryphons and the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Civic fields in Oshawa. The Badgers handled two strong teams winning 13-7 over Guelph and 14-8 over Laurier.
Strong goaltending by both
Eryn Matisz and
Mackenzie Singer, and a combination of strong offence, speed on transition, tenacious defence, and a balanced scoring attack have been their key to success.
Against Guelph
Kendra Byers led the scoring with five goals and one assist,
Sarah Simpson scored two goals and one assist,
Sarah Belmore,
Kathryn Simpson and
Eryn Brown added two goals each and
Breanne Gillie had two assists.
The game against the Golden Hawks saw
Breanne Gillie score a game high of four goals and one assist,
Kathryn Simpson and
Kendra Byers each added three goals.
Eryn Brown scored two goals and had three assists while
Sarah Belmore and
Kassidy Doherty each added one goal to the victory.
