GUELPH, Ont. - The Brock University women's volleyball team (4-4 OUA) dropped a 3-1 decision (17-25, 11-25, 25-21, 14-25) against the Guelph Gryphons on the road Friday night.
In warm-up, Brock senior
Nicole Arthurs injured her bad knee again which started the evening off on a bad note. The Badgers trailed 8-1 in the opening set and were never able to find their way as they dropped Games Two and Two 25-17 and 25-11. Brock cut it to 2-1 after winning Game Three 25-21, but the tough Gryphons squad battled back and took Game Four 25-14 and the set 3-1.
Leading the Badgers offense was
Renee Helmer who finished with 13 kills and six digs.
Maddie Brown and
Katie Murray contributed with six and five kills respectively. Setter
Lauren Stirling collected 23 assists and six digs, while libero
Karlinna O'Leary added 13 digs in the loss.
Guelph was led by Madison Dedecker who recorded 14 kills and 10 digs for the double-double. Rebecca Breau and Shannon Morelli contributed with 12 and eight kills respectively.
The Badgers hit just .025 for the match adding 33 kills and 30 errors on 122 attempts. The Gryphons finished with 46 kills and 16 errors on 112 attempts for a .268 hitting efficiency.Â
The Badgers return to action Sunday, November 16th at 1pm when they host the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
