OTTAWA, Ont. - The Brock men's basketball team (0-1 OUA) opened the 2014-15 regular season with a 106-58 loss to the No. 1 ranked Carleton Ravens Friday night at the Raven's Nest.
Brock held their own in the opening quarter trailing just 24-17, led by rookie
Johneil Simpson's 14 first quarter points. Carleton put together a run in the second quarter leading 53-34 at the half. In the third quarter, The Ravens offense broke it wide open outscoring Brock 29-5, on route to the 48-point victory.
Simpson led all Brock players with 18 points.
Zachary Angelini chipped in with nine points, while
Matt Marshall chipped in with eight points and six rebounds in the loss.
The Ravens had six players in double figures, led by Phil Scrubb who led all scorers with 33 points, going 11-for-17 from the field and 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Thomas Scrubb registered 17 points and five rebounds, while Cameron Smythe (12 pts), Victor Raso (11 pts), Guillaume Boucard (10 pts) and Connor Wood (10 points) rounded out the Raven leaders.
For the game, Brock struggled, shooting just 31.5% (17-for-54) from the floor and 24.0% (6-for-25) from downtown. They also went 18-for-23 (78.3%) from the charity stripe. Carleton shot 58.0% (40-for-69) from the field, 52.2% (12-for-23) from three-point land and 66.7% (14-for-21) from the free throw line.Â
The Badgers return to action Saturday night when they take on the Ottawa GeeGees at 8pm in the nation's capital.
