ST CATHARINES, Ont - The Brock University women's volleyball team (7-8 OUA) lost a close contest to McMaster University (10-3 OUA) on Saturday night, by a final score of 3-2 (25-19,19-25,19-25,25-23,11-15) at the Bob Davis Gymnasium. 
This was the second game for the Badgers on the weekend, after rallying back to defeat Guelph the night before. The McMaster side came into this contest at the top of the standings in the OUA West so this would prove to be a big test for the Badgers. 
Brock came out firing on all cylinders in the first set as they were able take it 25-19. But the strong McMaster side found their stride in the second and third set, taking both sets 25-19. The Badgers showed tremendous effort in the fourth set as they were able to rally back from a 16-23 deficit to eventually win the set 25-23. This set the stag for the fifth and final set. Unfortunately the home side fell just short, and McMaster captured the final set 15-11 on their way to 3-2 victory. 
The Badgers attack was led by the play of 
Renee Helmer who came away with 13 kills and 11 digs on the night. 
Katie Murray and 
Stacie Thomas both secured 9 kills respectively, while setter 
Lauren Stirling chipped in with 6 kills, 12 digs, and 35 assists.
Karlinna O'Leary continued her excellent play at libero as she was able to secure her 800th career dig on the night, on her way to scoring 32 digs for the contest.
The visiting side was led by the strong play of Joanna Jedrzejewska who scored 21 kills and 13 digs. Taylor Brisebois, 12 kills and Lauren Mastroluisi, 14 kills were also key players for the McMaster attack on the night. Alicia Jack played a strong game at the net, securing 7 block solo's, while setter Khira Adams ended the game with 27 assists. 
The Badgers hitting percentage was .093 off 48 kills, and 33 errors on 161 total attempts. The Marauders hit .185 on the night off 53 kills, and 24 errors on 157 total attempts. 
The Badgers next game will be on Sunday January 25th at home as they take on Ottawa.
