
The Brock University women's lacrosse team split their two games over the weekend dropping a one goal decision to the defending OUA Champion Western Mustangs 12-11 and rallying back to defeat the McMaster Marauders by the score of 10-9.
Versus McMaster, the Badgers trailed 6-1 at the half and found themselves down 9-6 with eight minutes left in regulation. In the final 58 seconds of the contest, Brock answered with four straight goals including an own goal in the dying seconds, to escape with the one goal victory.
The Badgers had a balanced offense led by
Breanne Gillie (Dundas, Ont.) who recorded three goals.Â
Kathryn Simpson (Welland, Ont.) added two goals and one assist while Kendra Byers (Mississauga, Ont.) (1G, 1A), Eryn Brown (Hamilton, Ont.) (1G), Anna Podvalni (Toronto, Ont.) (1G) and Samantha Shure (1G) rounded out the scoring.
Versus Western, Brock found themselves down 7-2 early in the second half before cutting the lead to one 7-6 with 19 minutes left in regulation.
The teams would exchange the next six goals, before Brock tied the game 10-10 with 4:23 left on a goal from Kendra Byers. The Mustangs L. Stewart would add one with 1:54 remaining to go up 11-10 but it was Byers answering thirty seconds later to tie it 11-11. Stewart would score the game winner for Western with 16.4 second left on the clock.
Leading the Badgers scoring was Byers who finished with a game-high six goals. K.Simpson recorded three goals with Brown and Sarah Simpson (Welland, Ont.) adding single goals.Â
