OSHAWA, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team (0-2-1 OUA) dropped a 4-2 decision to the UOIT Ridgebacks Thursday night on the road.
UOIT opened the scoring 5:46 into the opening period as Mark Petaccio added his first of the season with assists going to Dylan King and Jake Logan.
The Badgers would tie it up 1-1, six minutes into the second period, as
Chris Maniccia (St. Catharines, Ont.) and
Mitch Nardi (Hamilton, Ont.) setup
Sammy Banga (Windsor, Ont.).
Petaccio beat Brock starting goaltender
Real Cormier (Trenton, Ont.) for his second goal of the game 5:48 into the third period, giving UOIT a 2-1 lead. With 10 minutes left in regulation, the Ridgebacks took a 3-1 lead on a goal from James Woodcroft.
One minute later, the Badgers cut the lead to one, as rookies Brody Silk (Iroquois Falls, Ont.) and Skylar Pacheco (Kitimat, BC) setup Maniccia, who beat UOIT starter Brendan O'Neill for his first goal of the OUA regular season.
With the Brock goalie pulled, Ridgebacks forward Woodcroft would add the empty netter at 19:07 for his second goal of the night making it a 4-2 final.
Cormier recorded 35 saves in the loss, while O'Neill turned aside 36 of 38 shots he faced for the victory.
The Badgers next action is Saturday night when they travel to Kingston to take on the Queen's Gaels.
