TORONTO, Ont. - The No. 4 ranked Brock University men's basketball team (3-0 OUA) defeated the York Lions by the score of 86-71 Friday night at the Tait Mackenzie Center.
The Badgers trailed 28-25 four minutes into the second quarter, before going on a 16-4 run leading 41-32 with 2:20 left in the opening half. Brock held a five-point lead after 20 minutes,43-38.
Brock extended their lead to 12 after three quarters and led by as many as 17 points with just under four minutes left in regulation, on route their 14th victory of 2015-16. The Badgers are now 10-0 versus CIS opponents.
The Badgers had four players in double figures led by the duo of
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) and
Johneil Simpson (Toronto, Ont.) who combined for 49 of the Badgers 86 points. Elgadi finish with 25 points and 10 rebounds moving him into 10 all-time in career rebounds with Brad Rootes (689 rebounds). Simpson contributed with 24 points, four rebounds and four assists. Also in double digits were
Ryan Bennett (Toronto, Ont.) who added 16 points, including four three-pointers and
Zachary Angelini (Hamilton, Ont.) who chipped in with 11 points.
Leading the Lions were Shane Reader and Nathan Culbreath who added 16 and 11 points respectively in the loss.
For the game, Brock shot 52.2% (36-for-67) from the field, 33.3% (8-for-24) from beyond the arc and 61.5% (8-for-13) from the charity stripe. The Lions went 28-for-69 (40.6%) from the floor, 11-for-28 (39.3%) from three-point land and 4-fo-6 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
The Badgers return to the action Saturday night at 8 p.m. when they take on the Queen's Gaels in Kingston.
