Kingston, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team (4-3-3 OUA) came from behind to defeat the RMC Paladins by the score of 6-5 in overtime Saturday night on the road.
The Badgers opened the scoring with two minutes left in the first period, as
Brody Silk (Iroquois Falls, Ont.) beat Paladins starter Matt Murphy for his second goal of the season.
Tyson Dallman (Prince Albert, Sask.) and
Jamie Kendra (Markham, Ont.) were credited with the assists.
The Paladins would answer with back-to-back goals from Bruce Hornbrook and Eric Louis-Seize to make it to 2-1 eight minutes into the second period.
Just 29 seconds later, Brock's
Ryan Purvis (Orillia, Ont.) and
Adam Lloyd (Orleans, Ont.) setup
Evan Morden (Swan River, Man.) for his first goal of the season, tying it 2-2.
RMC would answer with three more goals before the end of the second period to take a 5-2 lead after 40 minutes.
5:29 into the third period, the Badgers cut the lead to two, as
Mitch Nardi (Hamilton, Ont.) added his fifth goal of the season.
Skylar Pacheco (Kitimat, BC) and
Jake Cardwell (Niagara Falls, Ont.) added the assists.
With just over two minutes left regulation, Cardwell and
Chris Maniccia (St. Catharines, Ont.) setup Pacheco for his fourth goal of the campaign. With just 1:03 left and regulation,
Sammy Banga (Windsor, Ont.) and Cardwell setup
Josh Timpano (Orillia, Ont.) to tie it 5-5, sending it to overtime.
With just nine seconds left in the overtime, Maniccia would find Cardwell who buried home the game winner. Cardwell finished the weekend with six points adding three goals and three assists in two games.
In goal,
Clint Windsor (Hamilton, Ont.) recorded the victory turning aside 14 of 15 shots he faced, after replacing starter
Real Cormier (Trenton, Ont.) late in the second period. RMC's Matt Murphy made a season high 59 saves in the loss.
The Badgers return to action on November 13th when they host the Windsor Lancers at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
