ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock Univesity women's hockey team (5-1-9-1 OUA) rallied from behind to defeat the Windsor Lancers by the score of 5-4 Sunday afternoon at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
Windsor jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the opening seven minutes of the first period with goals coming from Shawna Lesperance and Natalie Barrette,
The Badgers answered with three straight goals in the final eight minutes of the opening period to take a 3-2 lead after 20 minutes. Scoring in the first for Brock were
Laura Neu (Ayr, ON),
Kimberly Brown (Toronto, ON) with a powerplay marker and
Brittany Gillmor (St. George Brant, ON) with one second left on the clock.
Windsor's Lesperance would add her 11th goal of the season with 7:13 left in the second period to tie it 3-3 after 40 minutes.
Just a minute into the third period, the Lancers regained the lead as Noseworthy beat Brock starter
Stephanie Loukes (Oakville, ON) for her sixth of the campaign.
Brock's
Sophie Herbert ( Ryde Isle of Wight, UK) evened the game 4-4 at 8:24 of the third period with
Christina Ieradi (Maple, ON) and
Kailey Peirson (Kingston, ON) adding the assists. With 5:45 left in regulation,
Amanda Ieradi (Stittsville, ON) and Neu setup Brown for her second goal of the game and the eventual game winner.
In goal, Loukes recorded 28 saves for the victory. Windsor's Hanna Slater and Ingrid Sandven combined for 18 saves in the loss.
The Badgers return to action January 23rd at 7:15pm when they host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues at the Seymour-Hannnah Centre.
