ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University women's hockey team opened the 2016-17 OUA regular season with a double overtime victory over the Ryerson Rams at Jack Gatecliffe Arena Thursday afternoon.
Brock opened the scoring midway through the first period as Cara Sayles (Welland, ON) and
Megan Delay (Fort Erie, ON) setup rookie Carley Blomberg (Timmins, ON) for her first goal of her university career.
Just over a minute later, Ryerson tied the game 1-1 as Leanne Baker beat Brock starterÂ
Jensen Murphy (Kingston, ON) with a deflection.
In the second period it was all Murphy, as she turned aside all 11 Rams shots she faced to keep it tied 1-1 after 40 minutes. The Badgers were outshot 11-2 in the period.
After a scoreless second, Brock took a 2-1 lead 1:14 into the third as
Kailey Peirson (Kingston, ON)Â registered her first goal of the season with
Jazz Kennedy (Oakville, ON) and
Brenna Murphy (Odessa, ON) adding the assists.
The Rams evened the score 2-2 with just over eight minutes in regulation as Ailish Forfar added her first goal of the campaign.

Annie Berg (Beamsville, ON) used her speed down the wing and beat Ryerson starting goaltender Rachel Seeley for the game winner and her first goal in a Badgers uniform.
Murphy was outstanding in goal for the Badgers registering 42 saves for the victory. Seeley collected 25 saves in the loss.
