ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University women's hockey team defeated the Nipissing Lakers by the score of 3-1 Saturday afternoon as part of the "Pink in the Rink" game at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
Brock opened the scoring with 3:06 remaining in the first period as
Annie Berg (Beamsville, ON) and
Cara Sayles (Welland, ON) setup
Christina Ieradi (Maple, ON) for her third goal of the season.
Nipissing would tie the game 1-1 just a minute into the second period as Strassburger beat Brock starting goaltender
Jensen Murphy (Kingston, ON) for her second of the year. The Badgers regained the one goal lead eight minutes into the second, as rookies
Kate Landers (Timmins, ON) and
Kiana Tobia (Toronto, ON) found
Hunter Accursi (Ancaster, ON), who buried home her first goal of her OUA career.
With 12:03 remaining in the final period, it was the Badgers top line answering again, as Sayles and Berg found Ieradi for her fourth goal in her past two games. Early in the season Ieradi is looking like she did her rookie season where she collected 14 goals in 24 games.
In goal, Murphy recorded a career high 44 saves for the victory. Â
The Badgers return to action Sunday afternoon at 2:15pm as they host the Laurentian Voyageurs at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
