ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University women's lacrosse team improved to 5-1 on the season as they recorded victories over the Guelph Gryphons and Western Mustangs at Alumni Field Sunday.
Brock began the day with a 16-5 victory over the Guelph Gryphons.
The Badgers began the first half strong with a 8-3 lead and continued to control the play in the second half doubling their goals total. Brock goaltender
Mackenzie Singer (St. Catharines, ON) allowed just five goals on 15 shots.
Brock's Lindsey Highfield (Georgetown, ON) and Marianna Andrade (Mississauga, ON) led the scoring both with three goals and one assist each.
Eryn Brown (Hamilton, ON) and Jordan Turpin (Wainfleet, ON) each recorded three goals. Samantha Shure ( Oshawa, ON) and Kathryn Simpson (St. Catharines, ON) both contributed two goals and two assists with Melissa McCall ( Orangeville, ON), Jennifer Budarick (Hamilton, ON), Shania Porter (Hagersville, ON) and Ally Brown (Beachville, ON) finished with one assist each.
The Brock Badgers took their intensity to defeat the five-time defending OUA gold medalist Western Mustangs by the score of 12-11. This is the second straight season Brock defeated Western.
Brock came out strong with K. Simpson scoring two goals in the first two minutes. Western was on top at half with a 9-7 lead.
Brock took charge of the second half, with Singer allowing just two goals in the final 30 minutes finishing with 16 saves. K. Simpson added in two more goals and Sarah Simpson (St. Catharines, ON) finished with two goals and one assist. Brown led Brock with three goals and three assists. Shure ended the game with one goal and one assist. Andrade and Turpin both chipped in with one goal each while Highfield collected one assist.
The Brock Badgers head to Guelph next Saturday in a rematch against both the Guelph Gryphons and Western Mustangs..
