The No. 2 ranked Brock University men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to the No. 1 Carleton Ravens by the score of 80–75 in overtime in front of a sold out crowd of 3,296 at the Meridian Centre Saturday night.
The Badgers trailed 39-31 after the opening 20 minutes.
In the third quarter, Carleton extended of their lead to twelve 48–36, with seven minutes left in the quarter. The Badgers rallied back with a 13-5 run, trailing by just three, 53-50, after 30 minutes.
In the first three minutes of the final quarter, Brock went on a 9-0 run to lead 59-53 with seven minutes left in regulation.The Ravens answered with a 7-0 run over the next four minutes to lead 60-59.
The Badgers would take a 66-63 lead with just over a minute left in regulation as rookie
Kascius Small-Martin hit a clutch three from the elbow with a Ravens' defender in his face. Carleton closed out regulation with three straight points, including a jumper from Marcus Anderson to send it to overtime.
In overtime. Carleton scored the first four points to lead 70-66, and extended that lead to six 78-72, on route to their 10th victory of the season. With the loss, the Badgers drop to 9-2 in the regular season.
Brock had for starters in double figures led by
Cassidy Ryan who finished with 20 points and five rebounds. Dani Elgadi collected the double-double adding 16 points and 16 rebounds while
Daniel Cayer and Johneil Simpson chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Carleton was led by Yasiin Joseph who recorded 17 points. Munis Tutu and Cameron Smythe chipped in with 14 and 12 points respectively in the victory.
The Badgers open the second half the OUA regular season on the road for four straight games versus McMaster (Jan. 6), Algoma (Jan 12 & 13) and Guelph (Jan. 19).
