The Brock women's volleyball team (3-12) OUA dropped a 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 12-25, 24-26, 15-17) decision at the hands of the York Lions on Saturday afternoon at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
'We are disappointed losing today but, the changes we've made and the day to day improvements of our team have been astronomical," said head coach Dale Melnick. "We've been waiting for both Renee and Laura to consistently hit double digits in kills. Once again they both put up big numbers 19 and 14 respectively. Hannah and Emily together running the offense are becoming a threat on their own. This is an incredibly young talented team that are starting to piece good things together. We are excited to have another opportunity to play again tomorrow."
After winning each of the first two sets by a score of 25-22, the Badgers were unable to capture the elusive third set in order to secure the victory.
Leading the Badgers was Renee Helmer who registered 19 kills with 6 errors on 34 total attempts, good for a team-high .382 hitting percentage. Helmer also added 12 digs in the match. Laura Condotta also chipped in offensively by registering 12 kills and 6 errors, en route to a .188 hitting percentage. Libero Karlinna O'Leary had a team-high 15 digs, and setter Hannah Davenhill added 28 assists.
For the Lions, setter Kirsten Dillon registered a season-high 44 assists in the victory. Other notable performances for the Lions were Celeste Witzell (17 kills, .333 hitting percentage), Melissa Monkhouse (11 kills, 11 digs), and Sarah Williams (11 kills).
The Badgers are back in action on Sunday February 12th as they take on the Nipissing Lakers in the Bob Davis Gym. Game time is 2 pm.
