(WATERLOO, ON). The Badgers won their sixteenth game of the season Saturday night against Waterloo in a "scrappy" matchup.
The Warriors always play with an edge against Brock because the Badgers are in first place. The result is 45 minutes of hard battles, hacks, and slashes, along with a fight or two.
But Brock's skilled players helped take the lead early on. Their first goal came from
Andrew Jegg who stripped a defenceman of the ball and scores wide on the rush. This was followed by a goal from
Adam White to make it a 2-0 game only 8:59 into the 1st period.
While up 3-0, Brock got caught on one of their many penalties in the game, and the Warriors scored with 2:44 left in the first.
As the second period progressed, the battles continued. Brock took two roughing minors, and couldn't find the back of the net all period. This period left Waterloo feeling hopeful and the Badgers feeling targeted.
However, that all changed three minutes into the 3rd period when
Anthony Loveless scored twice in the same minute with assists from linemates
Andrew Jegg and
Chris Grenier.
Now 5-1, the Badgers controlled play and
Andrew Jegg scored one more with 2:47 left in the game.
The coach and the players agree that the referees seemingly put the whistle away. Coach
Rene Vandenboom agreed, stating that stick foul calls were "spotty."
The final score was 6-1 for Brock. Having already clinched first place, Brock awaits playoffs starting March 10th against McMaster.Â
