ST. CATHARINES, ON - The No. 4 Brock University men's basketball team knocked off the No. 3 Ottawa GeeGees by the score of 69-67 to capture the OUA bronze medal Saturday night in the nation's capital.
This is the Badgers first medal since their last OUA Wilson Cup Final Four Appearance back in 2008 when they defeated Ottawa for bronze.
The Badgers led 21-18 after one quarter and held onto a 38-34 lead at the half.
Midway through the third quarter, Brock held a one-point lead, 44-43, before going on a 10-1 run, to take their largest lead of the game 54-44 with 1:19 left in the quarter.

Ryan Bennett (Toronto, ON) would hit a clutch three-pointer from the corner to put Brock up 63-53 with 5:04 left in regulation. The GeeGees would answer with 9-0 run to make it a one-point game, 63-62, with two minutes remaining.Â
Rookie
Micheal Asemota (Brampton, ON) would come off the Brock bench and score the next four points to put the Badgers up 67-62 with 1:11 left in the game.
In the final 35 seconds Brock held a 68-64 lead, before two foul calls against them. Ottawa's Brandon Robinson would knock down both to make it 68-66 and then with an opportunity to tie the game, Caleb Agada would knock down just 1 of 2 two make it 68-67 with 20 second remaining.Â
Next possession, Brock's
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, ON) would get fouled off the inbound and go just 1 of 2 from the charity stripe to put Brock up 69-67. On the final possession, Ottawa's Brandon Robinson would miss the final shot, as the Badgers captured their first OUA medal since 2008.
Leading the Badgers offense was
Cassidy Ryan (Mississauga, ON) who registered 19 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
Tyler Brown (Hamilton, ON) contributed with 13 points and four assists whileÂ
Johneil Simpson (Toronto, ON) added 11 points, including three triples.Â
Agada led all scorers with a game-high 22 points. also in double figures was Robinson who added 14 points.
For the game, Brock shot 23-for-53 (43.4%) from the field, including 7-for-22 (31.8%) from beyond the arc and 16-for-18 (88.9%) from the free throw line. The GeeGees went 22-for-57 (38.6%) from the floor, 8-for-21 (38.1%) from long range and just 15-for-25 (60.0%).
