Rookie Jessica Ciolfi scored five goals and the Brock Badgers women's lacrosse team opened the OUA championships with a 14-5 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks at Justin Chiu Stadium in Peterborough on Friday.
"We had a great game against a much improved UOIT team after an early start and we're very excited to see where the rest of our championship weekend takes us," said head coach Ally Phillips.
First-year players Carley Thurston scored two goals and Kennedy Rawding added two assists.
"Once we got our feet under us we were off to the races demonstrating great fast breaks, transitions and goals," said Phillips.
Marianna Andrade scored two goals and an assist and Melissa McCall chipped in three helpers. Captains Emma Mete and Lindsey Highfield each added a goal and an assist.
Netminder Aly Godin picked up the win in between the pipes.
Up next, the Badgers play the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday at 6 p.m.
