Game Recap: Women's Hockey | | Stephen Leithwood

Badgers wrangle Mustangs

Goaltender Jensen Murphy made 42 saves and the Brock women's hockey team held off the Western Mustangs 2-1 at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Saturday.

Head coach Margot Page called it the Badgers' best game to date.

"We were very focused at practice this week and it really paid off in today's win," said Page. "The way we played in the first two periods is how we want and need to play."

Brock outshot Western 11-7 in the first period and started finding the back of the net in the second.

Marissa Ryalls opened the scoring to kickoff the period and Amanda Ieradi netted the eventual game winner at 13:04.

Hunter Accursi, Hailey McCallum, Carley Bomberg and Maggie Spratt-Mallick each chipped in an assist.

For the Mustangs, Renae Nevills ended Murphy's bid for a shutout at the 14-minute mark of the third.

"In the 3rd we got into penalty trouble a bit and started playing a not-to-lose game instead of playing to win," said Page. "Proud of the team the way they battled through that. Another valuable learning experience."
