The Brock men's basketball team improved to their record to 6-4 with a victory over the Queen's Golden Gaels at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Friday.
Cassidy Ryan punished the Gaels inside the paint leading with 23 points and five rebounds as the Badgers won 85-64.
Johneil Simpson rang in 16 points and Kascius Small-Martin added 10.
Brock played highly offensive in the first half. The Badgers outscored the Golden Gaels 25-18 in the first quarter and held on to that lead as they went into the second half ahead 41-38.
Hot shooting from guards around the perimeter and presence on the boards gave the Badgers many second chances they converted to points.
In the second half the Badgers defence stepped up to the level of their offence by forcing several key turnovers on the side of the Golden Gaels and finishing them with transition points thanks to fast guards like Tyler Brown and Kascius Small-Martin.
The Badgers shooting and fast-paced play punished the Golden Gaels loose offence, so Brock jumped out even further, leading 66-48 after the third quarter, and sealed a 21-point victory.
"I'm really proud of how our guys defended tonight," said head coach Madhav Trivedi. "The second quarter wasn't so great but we had a three-point lead at half and then we extended it and we held their team to under 70 points so I got to be proud of our guys for that. I thought our bench was fantastic and gave us really good minutes. That Queen's team is a good team and they're well-coached, they do some good things that give good teams trouble so to get a win of that margin against them is not easy to do and I credit our guys for that."
Brock will look to add another game to the win column the next night when the York Lions (4-5) visit St. Catharines.
