The Brock men's basketball team further increased their win total on Saturday night as they took down the Lions 96-94.

Johneil Simpson led all scorers with his 28 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Tyler Brown posted 22 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Brock charged out of the gate with quick points to put York on their heels for the remainder of the first quarter.

With Kascius Small-Martin and Cassidy Ryan leading the charge early, the Badgers gave themselves a 21-15 lead that would disappear in the second quarter.

The Lions got going in the second and their ability to get the ball inside-out punished the Badgers defence. York stormed back to a 44-40 lead by the second half.

Much like the first two quarters, the second half would be as back and forth as they could be. The Badgers three-point shooting from Simpson along with the playmaking skills of Brown were evenly matched by York's ability to find the open shot and it ended up being 70-68 York going into the final 10 minutes.

The game came down to the wire in the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Trading basket for basket, York tied the game at 94 points with five seconds left and it felt like it was going into overtime until Michael Vos Otin capitalized out of the timeout and put it in from inside the paint to give your Badgers the 96-94 lead with 0.5 seconds left to seal their victory.

Brock, though finished for the calendar year, will be back on Jan. 5 to take on the Western Mustangs on the road followed by a trip to Laurier on Jan. 9 to take on the Golden Hawks.
