The Brock men's basketball team advanced to 11-6 after they defeated the Algoma Thunderbirds 101-71 on Friday night.
Johneil Simpson recorded 24 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Â
Fighting back after being put behind in the early minutes, Brock proved to Algoma that they meant business and the Thunderbirds were going to have to fight to keep themselves in the game.
Brock jumped out to an early 21-13 lead after the first quarter thanks to a wide range of scoring by their starters.
Algoma punched back in the second, knocking down three-pointers to answer Brock's opportunities. Despite keeping the game within 10 for a majority of the half, Algoma was unable to fully cut the deficit and went into the second half down 48-35.
Brock kept their stride in the third. Staying away from foul trouble until late in the quarter and keeping their offence steady and patient to capitalize on many opportunities. Brock led 74-55 heading into the fourth.
Keeping their scoring high and still getting important stops to avoid momentum swings, Brock grew the lead even more in the fourth and solidified their victory.
Now only a game behind Western in their division, the Badgers host Algoma again on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Bob Davis Gymnasium. Tipoff is 8 p.m. Get your tickets here.
