Johneil Simpson scored 40 points and moved into No. 5 among Brock men's basketball all-time scoring leaders during a 90-83 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday.
Simpson has a total of 2,755Â career points and is 12Â points behind No. 4 Ken Murray.Â
The Badgers improved to a record of 12-6.
Cassidy Ryan scored 11 points and Daniel Cayer added 10 points and 15 rebounds. Tyler Brown notched 10 assists.
Brock dominated early against the Thunderbirds with efficient ball movement. Capitalization on many chances gave them more looks at the rim and a 25-12 lead going into the second quarter.
Brock kept their momentum going and kept the offence running while forcing turnovers on bad passes by the Thunderbirds.
Algoma started to find their rhythm in the third quarter, finding more effective ways of scoring to match the power Brock was showing.Â
The fourth quarter tested the Badgers, Algoma was now playing at the level they had to play at in order to keep up.
Brock kept the Thunderbirds one step back and gained the victory despite a late run by Algoma.
Now tied with Western for second in their conference, Brock has an important game coming up as they take on the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at McMaster.
