Women's Basketball: Brock reaches .500

Brock women's basketball defeated the Algoma Thunderbirds 62-40 on Saturday night to climb back up to .500 with a 9-9 record.

Melissa Tatti recorded a team-high 21 points with four rebounds, six assists and five steals. Miranda Smith followed close behind with 13 points, seven rebounds and an assist.

Brock and Algoma got off to a slow start. Unable to find their rhythm offensively the end of the first quarter came to a close with the score 4-4.

"It took us a while to get going in the first quarter, but overall we brought up the intensity and played together in the third and fourth to take the game at home", said Miranda Smith.

Picking up the pace in the second, the Badgers started to edge past the Thunderbirds with their inside scoring and ability to get to the foul line. As the second quarter finished, Brock's lead was up to 21-17.

Brock kept momentum going in the third. The Badgers got comfortable with their mid-range shot and brought in rotation players to help as they pushed farther away from Algoma.

Going into the fourth quarter, Brock led Algoma 41-32.

Brock clamped down on defence in the fourth, limiting many of the Thunderbirds' chances. Along with a now stable offence and key minutes from rotation players, Brock held off Algoma and secured their second win of the weekend.

Brock will look to push ahead when they travel to McMaster on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
