Puck drops on second half, Badgers roar out of the gate

Box Score

The Brock women's hockey team exploded for four goals in the third period to sink the York Lions 6-3 at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Saturday during their first game since the holiday break.

"The first two periods were scambly, but we settled in the third," said head coach Margot Page. "In the last five-six minutes we played 6-on-5 and 6-on-4, which is good to have that experience in our toolbox."

Niamh Haughey scored her first OUA goal to open the scoring during a short-handed chance midway through the first period, and added two assists.

York tied it up late in the first before Amanda Ieradi found the back of the net in the second to give Brock the lead for the rest of the game.

Katreena Whiteye and Annie Berg each scored a pair of goals in the third.

Goaltender Jensen Murphy made 30 saves for the win.

Ieradi and Morgan Dezell each tallied two assists. Makyla Porter chipped in an assist.

The Badgers outshot the Lions 11-8 in the third and fired a total of 26 shots on York netminder Eva Hall.

Up next, the Badgers (5-3-3-2-) play their next four games on the road beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 9 in Guelph.
