Box Score Goaltender Jensen Murphy made 42 saves and denied three straight shooters to lift the Brock women's hockey team to a 4-3 shootout victory over the first-place Gryphons in Guelph on Wednesday.
Amanda Ieradi scored a goal in regulation and dented the twine in the shootout. Cassidy Maplethorpe recorded the shootout winner.
The Badgers move into fifth spot in the OUA standings with a record of 6-3-3-2.
"It wasn't pretty at times, but we worked hard to execute the game plan," said head coach Margot Page. "Very happy to see a gutsy performance by everyone."
After Hailey McCallum opened the scoring for Brock early in the first, the Gryphons clawed their way back into the game with back-to-back goals midway through the frame.
Brock's Annie Berg tied the game 2-2 before the first intermission. Berg picked up an assist on Ieradi's goal with three seconds remaining in the second period to give Brock another lead.
Guelph's Madison Melo sent the game into overtime with a goal in the third.
Up next, the Badgers travel to Waterloo to battle the Laurier Golden Hawks (3-10-0-1) on Friday, Jan. 11 at 7:07 p.m.
