Men's Basketball: Badgers come out firing in second half to wrangle Warriors

The Brock men's basketball team rebounded with a 95-81 victory over the Waterloo Warriors during their final regular season game at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Sunday.

After an overtime loss to Western the night before, the Badgers bounced back by defeating the Warriors with a big second-half performance.

Brock trailed 46-36 at halftime, but outscored Waterloo 59-35 in the second half.

Cassidy Ryan led the team in two columns: scoring 28 points and recording seven rebounds. Johneil Simpson recorded 16 points and Tyler Brown posted 14 with six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Brown went eight-for-eight from the free-throw line.

Noah LaPierre registered 12 points and Michael Vos Otin added seven points, four rebounds and four steals.

Daniel Cayer chipped in eight points and Kascius Small-Martin netted seven.

Waterloo played a physical and relentless game, and that caused a wake up call for Brock early on as Waterloo stayed with the Badgers throughout the first and jumped ahead in the second. After the first it was 22-18 Brock.

Part of Waterloo's 10-point lead they had gained by halftime was due to the impressive three-point shooting and pressure they were putting on Brock on all parts of the court.

Waterloo recorded 28 points in the second compared to Brock's 14 and that put them ahead 46-36.

The momentum Waterloo gained in the second was quickly silenced by the Badgers.

Early on in the third, three-pointers by Johneil Simpson and transition buckets from Kascius Small-Martin and Tyler Brown gave the Badgers an offensive run that would have them ahead 64-55.

After swinging the momentum in their favour in the third, all Brock needed to do was seal the deal and not allow a comeback. Despite a high scoring final quarter from Waterloo with 26 points, Brock stayed to their game and put up 31 of their own, strong enough to hold the lead where it was and take the victory.

Up next, the second-place Badgers (15-7) concluded the regular season with back-to-back games at Lakehead (9-13) beginning on Friday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.
