Box Score Logan House scored 34 kills to set a new school record and the Brock men's volleyball team pulled off a comeback victory to defeat the Waterloo Warriors on the road Friday.
After trailing by two sets, the Badgers won 3-2 (26-28, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23, 15-9) for their second consecutive win.
"The Waterloo Warriors were chasing the last playoff spot and felt that they had to beat us to have a chance to claim the fourth playoff position," said head coach Doug Hanes. "Our boys were ready to play and got out to a lead in the first set and looked like we would be able to win it, but a number of errors cost us."
Hanes made some changes to the lineup with substitutions in attempt to change momentum.
"In a bit of desperation, I made some critical changes to the lineup, moving Logan House, our all-star leftside player to right side and took our libero and put him in at leftside. This was supposed to give us better ball control and passing and more scoring from rightside."
The bench boss' tinkering worked as the Badgers delivered a .375 kill percentage and only three errors in the third.
In one rotation, Brock's libero turned leftside, Ethan Kalef, was lined up against Waterloo's largest player, Kevin Lebreaux, who stands 6-foot-11.
Kalef finished with six kills, three assists, a service ace, 10 digs and two blocks.
"Ethan used skill and shot making to hit the ball as hard as he could aiming up at the top of the enormous block and landing the ball off the block and outside the court to score five different times," said Hanes.
Mark Naqvi finished with six kills and a .455 kill percentage. He added six blocks. Setter Marcelo Correa posted a career-high 55 assists and nine digs.
Alex Carter scored five kills and a service ace.
Up next, the Badgers end the regular season when they host the No. 5-ranked McMaster Marauders on Friday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m.
