Brock's senior basketball players — Melissa Tatti, Cassidy Ryan and Johneil Simpson — were selected as OUA all stars this week.
A fourth-year guard, Tatti (Ancaster, Ont) was named an OUA second-team all star. She was one of the top-five scorers in the province.
Tatti led the Badgers with 16.2 points per game, which was good for third in the OUA, and was one of the top distributors all season long with 4.5 assists per game and led the league in steals (4.1).
"Melissa has been the heart and soul of this year's Badger team," said Brock women's basketball coach Mike Rao. "Melissa played in all 32 games this year. She is a joy to coach. She is always looking to better herself, but at the same time she makes everyone around her better. I could not have asked for a better captain and leader. One of the all-time greatest women's players at Brock University."
Simpson (Toronto, Ont) was named an OUA first-team all star.
In his fifth season, Simpson finished fourth in the OUA with 20.5 ppg and third in three-point shooting (42.2 per cent). Simpson enjoyed a standout season as he quickly rose the ranks of the Badgers' all-time greats as the season progressed.
"Johneil works hard on both ends of the floor. He does everything at 100 per cent. He comes into practice and there's never a possession he takes off," said Brock men's basketball head coach Madhav Trivedi. "There's never a rep off with him. That to me is very special and it's showing on the court. That type of work ethic and drive affects everyone else on the team in positive way."
Ryan (Mississauga, Ont) is Brock's dynamic fifth-year forward, who can play anywhere on the court. He was named to the OUA's third all-star team.
He averaged 18.3 ppg and 5.8 rebounds per game this season, and shot more than 46 per cent from the field.
"Cassidy is a very unique player. He can play multiple positions. He can play inside out and has a very good skill set that makes him tough to guard on the offensive end," said Trivedi. "He's got a great passing ability. He's a great teammate and leader. He sets a great example for our younger players with his work ethic. He's always trying to get better. The program is going to miss him and we're very proud of him for this award."
