Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Stephen Leithwood

Lall, Kwakwah power No. 5 Badgers past Gryphons

The No. 5 Brock men's basketball team defeated the Guelph Gryphons 86-76 in its last home game at Bob Davis Gymnasium before the holiday break.

TJ Lall and Godsman Kwakwah each led the Badgers with 19 points versus the Gryphons on Wednesday, Nov. 24. The duo also collected a total of nine rebounds.

The Badgers don't play again at home until Jan. 15, 2022 when they host Waterloo.

As the Badgers approach the halfway mark of the regular season, Lall, a fifth-year guard from Cambridge, leads Brock in scoring with 22.9 points per game, which also ranks fourth in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA).

"We have a deep team where a lot of guys can score in a lot of different ways, so I'm focused on making easy plays," said Lall, a Psychology student. "Somebody will get an open shot on our team, so it's about being aggressive to make easy plays. That's what we do."

On Wednesday, Brock's talent was on display in front of a full crowd.

Brock led 27-20 after the first quarter and held Guelph under 40 per cent shooting, and allowed only 14 points.

Senior forward Daniel Cayer and guard Kascius Small-Martin led Brock with six rebounds and 10 points, respectively, with a 56-34 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Emmanuel Owoo-toah posted eight points. He finished the night with three assists, a trio of three-pointers, a block and a steal in 18 minutes of play.

Second-year guard Isaiah Bujdoso registered a game-high eight assists. In addition, he contributed nine points and added eight assists.

Brock shot 47.1 per cent (32-68) from field goal range while adding 33 points from beyond the arc.

For Guelph, Malcolm Glanville led the Gryphons with 30 points and nine rebounds.

The undefeated Badgers (6-0) will travel to Guelph on Saturday, Nov. 27, for one last meeting with the Gryphons (1-4) to wrap up the first half of the 2021-22 schedule. The tipoff is at 3 p.m. Watch the game live on OUA.tv.
