No. 4 Badgers shut down Gryphons

The Brock women's basketball team comfortably defeated the Guelph Gryphons 78-52 at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday, Nov. 24.

The Badgers, who were ranked No. 4 in the country following U SPORTS weekly rankings report, improved to 6-0 on the season.

On average, the Badgers are currently outscoring their opponents by 22.5 points per game.

"Talent has never been an issue on our team. We have a good group of women and we're just putting that talent together," said third-year guard Ivana Twumasi. "I see it unfold every game, especially the more we play together. I'm not surprised that we're winning games the way we are, but rather more happy that we're winning as a team."

Twumasi tallied 11 points in 18 minutes of action, and recently posted 25 points versus Windsor.

"I feel like I'm in my zone, but I owe it all to my teammates," said Twumasi, a Psychology student from Toronto. "My teammates always set me up and give me the best opportunity they can."

Senior forward Samantha Keltos led the Brock offence with 17 points and 11 rebounds, including two blocks and three steals.

Head coach Mike Rao said adding a player like Twumasi to the lineup has created dynamic chemistry with Brock's leading scorer, Keltos.

"Ivana and Sam attack the basket so well," said head coach Mike Rao. "Ivy's a smart player who takes a lot off the back of our perimeter players. An excellent performance through the first half of the season."

First-year guard Madalyn Weinert registered 10 points and eight rebounds.

Brock led 31-24 at halftime. Victoria Lawrence led the Badgers in scoring during the second half with 12 points while hitting a pair of three-pointers and grabbing three rebounds.

Mackenzie Robinson added eight points and nine rebounds.

Next, the Badgers (6-0) complete the first half of the regular season with a game in Guelph on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. Watch the game on OUA.tv.
