Box Score The Brock women's volleyball team celebrated its home opener with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-23) win over the Guelph Gryphons at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, Nov. 6.
"It was a great night and amazing to be back on the court after 19 months of no live competition," said head coach Steve Delaney. "The best part about today was that we got pushed and we were down in the second set but we were able to battle back and win. It was great to see our young team not give up."
It was the Badgers first regular-season game since facing Toronto in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Quigley Cup gold-medal game on March 13, 2020.
"It was the best feeling to get back on the court competing again. We've been training hard and waiting for this big moment," said senior middle Christina Jovetic. "Starting off the season with a win in front of our home crowd made it that much more special with this group."
A pair of Niagara-born players led the Badgers offence.
Newcomer Sadie Dick, a second-year outside hitter from St. Catharines, led the Badgers with 13 kills and a .440 hitting percentage.
First-year outside hitter Emily Foest of Fonthill registered 10 kills.
First-year left side Madison Chimienti tallied nine kills while senior middles Jovetic and Grace Pyatt each contributed seven and six kills, respectively.
Third-year setter Sara Rohr dished out 34 assists, including three aces.
Next, the Badgers (1-0) host the McMaster Marauders at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Friday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. Get your tickets here.
