ST CATHARINES - Hosting the Mount Royal Cougars at Canada Games Park on Friday afternoon, the Brock Badgers men's basketball team earned an impressive 81-56 win to close out their preseason schedule.
Brock concludes their exhibition schedule, which included three matches against teams ranked in the final U SPORTS Top 10 from last season, with a record of 3-4.
In the Friday afternoon contest, the Badgers were dominant out of the gates taking advantage of numerous Cougars turnovers in the first quarter to jump out to a 24-11 lead and never looking back. Brock's strong defence throughout finished the contest with 15 total steals, while holding the Cougars to 16 or less points in all four quarters.
Offensively,
Michael Matas was the Badgers top scorer with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting off the bench, while adding five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Guards
Isaiah Bujdoso and
Jordan Tchuente added 13 and 10, respectively. Double-digit scoring for the Badgers was rounded out by veteran forward
Jesse Barnes who tallied 10 points along with eight rebounds.
Brock opens the OUA regular season on the road Friday, Nov. 4 versus the Toronto Varsity Blues before returning to Bob Davis Gymnasium for their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 5.
